Snowy Winter Elopement at the Fogo Island Inn

Capen and Will reached out just two days before they had decided to get married while on vacation at the Fogo Island Inn for New Years, and I got straight in the car to get out to Fogo Island. The winter landscape out there was so stunning, and these two were the sweetest. I have always loooooved shooting destination elopements in Newfoundland and showing folks my favourite places for the first time.

The Fogo Island Inn were so sweet in helping these two out with last-minute arrangements, taking care of everything right down to the bouquet they drove back to the mainland to pick up and the UNREAL partridgeberry vanilla cake.

Their elopement was also featured on the UK wedding blog Want That Wedding.

Things to Keep in Mind When Planning Your Fogo Island Elopement:

I highly recommend booking through the Inn – they treat their couples like gold and look after all the details for you. All you’ll have to worry about is what to wear. Plus, the architecture is so stunning!

If the Inn isn’t for you, there are a number of sweet Air BnBs on the island. I think this one and this one are both really sweet!!

Getting there

It is easiest to fly into Gander International Airport (YQX). From there, the Fogo Island Inn will help you arrange transport to the Island. If you aren’t booking through the Inn, you’ll need to rent a car in Gander. You’ll drive an hour north along route 330 to the ferry terminal in Farewell. Here is the ferry schedule – be sure to check the “Notice” at the top of the page to see which seasonal schedule is current. And be sure to arrive at least an hour early, as the ferry line up can be long in the summer! The island itself is quite large, and there are 10 main communities. Depending on which community you are staying in, the drive from the ferry terminal can be anywhere from 10 minutes to a full hour!

Please feel super welcome to keep in touch as you plan your Fogo Island elopement or wedding if you need help with planning your transportation!
